Yes, it’s free to join Norwich ALT meetup group. You would need to create a free account first on meetup.com to signup and join our events. Some events may require booking or a fee, for example if we hire out a games room – but this will be clearly stated on each and any event..
No, sorry. Only accepted members are welcome to events. If you have applied to join the group but not heard anything back yet, please be patient. Our team will get back to you as soon as we can. We also review membership applications in order of date to keep things as fair as possible.
It’s understandable to be a little nervous if you are new to meetup or to the group. Everyone is new at some point. Please feel free to join our meetup group, there are lots of events of different kinds and we are a welcoming, friendly group with clear and simple rules – to make sure everything is run fairly and safely. You can reach out to us via email or via meetup if you have any questions, often we arrive a little earlier than the planned meetup times in order to welcome new members and help them feel settled.
In terms of privacy and data, this is minimal on our side. All you would need to share with us as a group is to ensure you have a genuine, identifiable photo (for events) and a name or nickname for group safety reasons. Beyond that, we don’t need any information on our side. We actually recommend not including your family/second name on your profile to increase privacy – a first name is sufficient.
We have many members who are neurodivergent or suffer from mental health struggles such as anxiety. We try to create a safe, welcoming environment which is as accesible as possible. Whilst we are not counsellers or therapists, we are supportive in nature and run various kinds of events that may appeal for those who do not like busy our loud environments. If you’re not sure an event is right for you – that’s totally fine, there is no pressure to attend. Simply keep an eye out for events that you feel may suit you best. Please contact us if you’re nervous or have any questions.
Yes, we take safety very seriously. We have clear and defined rules that are enforced without any bias. Bad behaviour will not be tolerated in our meetup group and we have the option for members to contact us confidentially to discuss any issues should they ever occur.
No, many of our members are new to the group or meetup. Whether you’re new to meetup or to the group, we do our best to greet and introduce everyone each event to make all feel welcome. We are not a clicky group and every member is made to feel welcome and treated fairly.
We have a community whatsapp channel for our members. Once you attend an event, we will share the link to the community group to you. It’s totally optional, you don’t have to join it of course. It’s a good way to get extra reminders for events if you don’t check meetup too often. We also have created a sub-group chat for members so they can chat and organise gatherings internally.
